Accessibility and Gap.com

I was reading an A List Apart article that referenced the Gap.com site redesign. When I went to the site to check it out, I was greeted with this message:

We’re sorry, but we do not support the version of the browser you are using.
Our site works best with the following browsers:
PC users
Internet Explorer 5.5 and above
Netscape 7 and above
Mozilla (including Firefox) 1.0 and above
Mac users
Netscape 7 and above
Mozilla (including Firefox) 1.0 and above

OK, I’m on Linux using Firefox 1.5 so I can’t use your site… at all? Worse yet, it does not work in Safari, the default web browser for Mac OSX.

A prime example of eschewing accesibility and standards for new flashy technology. What good is a pretty website if it isn’t accessible to your visitors? At the very least they could have built a site that degrades properly for non-supported browsers so these users can still buy the product online. That’s the goal, right?

Hi i’m using Safari and all the other browsers for MacOS X, still no satisfying results from the GAP website. Old Navy and BR are working just fine. The first pages are going smooth then it gets ugly.By stopping and reloading it sometimes will load completely but then again it get stuck.
This is now going on for more then a year and its getting fustrating.

    Friendly greetings

    Jacques
